Obama’s Dream Act Announcement on June 15, 2012

President Obama announced that his administration would no longer seek deportation of individuals who meet the following criteria:

-Came to the U.S. under the age of 16; is not over 30 years old; has continuously resided in the U.S. for at least five years preceding June 19, 2012 and is present in the U.S.; is currently in school or graduated form high school or has obtained a GED certificate or is an honorably discharged veteran of the Coast Guard or Armed Forces of the U.S.; has not been convicted of a felony offense, significant misdemeanor, or multiple misdemeanors; AND does not otherwise pose a threat to national security or public safety.

In addition, individuals who meet the above criteria can affirmatively seek deferred action, which will enable them to obtain work permits.
