Mr. Gianelli clerked for the Honorable Raymond J. Dearie, former Chief Judge of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York.
Mr. Gianelli earned his undergraduate degree in New York from Hamilton College. He attended law school at California Western School of Law in San Diego, California, and graduated with high honors. While in law school, Mr. Gianelli was an Associate Editor on Law Review. In addition, Mr. Gianelli worked at the Legal Aid Society of San Diego and within the Cold Case Homicide Unit of the San Diego District Attorney’s Office.
Mr. Gianelli has extensive experience in both criminal and civil litigation. He has successfully argued cases in federal and state courts in multiple jurisdictions. For example, Mr. Gianelli has achieved favorable results for clients charged with misdemeanors and felonies, successfully argued cases before appellate courts, been appointed counsel in a section 1983 federal action, and defended numerous clients charged with removability in federal immigration courts and the Board of Immigration Appeals.

Michael P. Gianelli, Esq., is committed to the philosophy that community service is part of the privilege of practicing law. Through his pro bono work Michael strives to promote justice and make justice equally accessible to all.
Mr. Gianelli regularly accepts pro bono cases from the Rocky Mountain Immigrant Advocacy Network, which is an organization focused on providing free legal representation to indigent, detained noncitizens facing deportation.
In addition, Michael has contributed to Ya Es La Hora’s citizenship clinics. Ya Es La Hora is a national organization that promotes voter registration and helps permanent residents naturalize.
Mr. Gianelli has accepted cases from the Metro Volunteer Lawyers Association and contributes to its Family Law Court Program.
Michael also attends Centro San Juan Diego Legal Nights, where he offers free legal assistance to indigent individuals on a wide variety of issues.
